As the Prince Edward County weather turns fully to winter mode and 100 Acre Firewood 2024 season comes to a close, it's time to reflect on the highs and lows of this year's firewood adventures. From roaring bonfires to cozy nights by the fireplace, it's been a wild ride filled with warmth and good vibes. This being our first full year selling firewood we have learned a lot and delivered lots of wood to our amazing customers in the Prince Edward County area.
Some customer deliveries in 2024:
What Went Down at the 100 Acre Firewood 2024 Season?
Let's start with the highlights, shall we? The 100 Acre crew chopped, stacked, and delivered some top-notch firewood through out this season. We were on fire (pun intended) with our quality and service, making sure every customer got their wood on time and in close to perfect condition. During the year we delivered around 25 cords of wood to our customers. Going into the season I thought that we would get to 15 or so cords in our first season - I am glad that we over delivered on that target by almost double! We also worked through a few custom processing and tree removal projects outside of our standard firewood deliveries which all came off without a hitch.(I need to get better at quoting these jobs... but I am learning!)

Did the 100 Acre Firewood 2024 Season Have any Hiccups?
Of course, no season(especially a first season) is without its challenges. As a new comer to the firewood business there really is a lot to learn. The time needed to fully process and deliver a cord of wood was an eye opener for me. Also the distance for delivery in PEC can be challenging - Cressy is far from everywhere! Balancing life in the firewood business and working in Toronto at my other job has been tough - you really need to be hustling in the woodlot to keep up with customer orders. We are also finding the right pathway to go from standing dead trees to full split and processed/delivered firewood. During the year we made some investments in a faster stand alone log splitter(Wallenstein WXR720L), upgraded woodchipper(Wallenstein BXT72S) and a firewood conveyor(Wallenstein CT24B). All three of these investments should set us up for faster processing in 2025.

What's Next for 100 Acre Firewood?
As the 2024 season wraps up, the 100 Acre Firewood crew is already gearing up for next year. We are brainstorming new ways to speed up processing and deliveries in 2025. The biggest thing for next year is getting more firewood ready and stacked earlier in the season. Many of our customers like to order VERY early in the season - they do not operate last minute like I do. Many people order firewood in September which was a surprise to me. Based on this we are going to start getting wood ready much earlier in the season and have a lot of wood on hand for camping season too. During 2024 we found that a lot of campers came by to pick up face cords or 1/2 face cords of wood for their camp sites - we want to make sure that we can support these customers during the summer months as well.
